Medicare Supplement plans (Medigap)
Medicare Prescription Drug plans (Part D)

What is Medicare Advantage?
Medicare Advantage (Part C) is a health plan offered by a private insurance company that contracts with Medicare to insure Medicare patients. Our Medicare Advantage plans can include:
Hospital and inpatient coverage (Part A)
Doctor and outpatient coverage (Part B)
Prescription drug coverage (Part D)
Our Medicare Advantage plans also include benefits that traditional Medicare does not cover, such as:
Vision care
Hearing care
Dental care
Why do I need a Medicare Part D plan?
Purchasing a Part D plan, whether as a stand-alone or as part of a Medicare Advantage plan, gives you peace of mind that your prescriptions will be covered.
That’s because a Medicare Part D plan covers medications that Part B (doctor and outpatient coverage) doesn’t cover.
For example, Part D covers medications you take regularly to manage chronic conditions as well as many vaccines, such as for shingles and repository syncytial virus (RSV). Part B covers most drugs you are prescribed when you are sick, or annual vaccines such as for flu and COVID.
What’s the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement?
You would purchase either Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement from a private insurer such as HealthSpring – but you only need one or the other.
Here are the big differences between the plans:
Medicare Advantage combines into one plan Original Medicare (Parts A and B) and can also include prescription drug coverage (Part D) and benefits traditional Medicare doesn’t cover, such as vision, dental and hearing. You may need to use in-network providers, hospitals and pharmacies.
Medicare Supplement (Medigap) is purchased in addition to your Original Medicare coverage. You can see any doctor, pharmacy or hospital that accepts Medicare patients. Your Medicare Supplement plan helps pay out-of-pocket costs that Original Medicare doesn’t cover. However, you will have to purchase a separate Part D plan if you want full prescription drug coverage.
What do I get with HealthSpring Supplemental insurance and Whole Life plans?
Supplemental insurance helps pay for medical and household expenses that other insurance may not cover. HealthSpring offers plans that help with:
Hospital stays
Cancer care
Heart attack and stroke care
We also offer individual whole life insurance, which can help cover final expenses, including funeral costs.
