    Hospital Indemnity Insurance Product Details

A hospital stay can be expensive and can happen at any time.2 Even with medical coverage, out-of-pocket expenses can add up quickly. How can Hospital Indemnity Insurance help you?

Customize your Hospital Indemnity Insurance policy

With three policy options—Choice Core, Choice Preferred, and Choice Premier—and four optional riders7, HealthSpring provides you with a variety of benefits to explore, allowing you to choose the coverage that best suits your needs and budget. Consider adding one or more of the following riders for even more coverage (these summaries contain highlights only and are subject to change):

    Ambulance Rider

Pays a benefit for ambulance transportation via ground, water, or air. No hospital admission or confinement is required.

    Hospital Admission Rider

Pays a benefit for inpatient hospital admission.

    Intensive Care Rider

Doubles the Hospital Confinement benefit for confinement in a hospital intensive care unit.

Outpatient Diagnostic Exam & X-ray Rider

Pays a benefit for x-rays and major diagnostic exams completed in a hospital, urgent care center, emergency room, or a physician’s office.

    Jim's story

One day, Jim was doing some yard work and felt chest pains. Jim’s wife, Susan, took no chances and called 911. It turns out that Jim was experiencing a mild heart attack. He was admitted to the hospital and stayed for two nights.

Jim bought a Hospital Indemnity Insurance policy some years back. For less than 50 cents per day1, it seemed like a smart decision. He used the cash benefit from the policy to pay for his major health insurance plan’s deductible, which would have been a major out-of-pocket expense. The cash benefit also helped to pay for other expenses so he and Susan didn’t have to worry about household bills while he focused on his recovery.4

IMPORTANT: This is a fixed indemnity policy, NOT health insurance. This fixed indemnity policy may pay you a limited dollar amount if you’re sick or hospitalized. You’re still responsible for paying the cost of your care. The payment you get isn’t based on the size of your medical bill. There might be a limit on how much this policy will pay each year. This policy isn’t a substitute for comprehensive health insurance. Since this policy isn’t health insurance, it doesn’t have to include most federal consumer protections that apply to health insurance.

Looking for comprehensive health insurance? Visit HealthCare.gov or call 800.318.2596 (TTY: 855.889.4325) to find health coverage options. To find out if you can get health insurance through your job or a family member’s job contact the employer.
